2016 – Practice and qualifying at Petit Le Mans Road Atlanta (Sep 30)

On Friday (September 30) the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship cars were on track for their final practice and qualifying sessions for Petit Le Mans. The #60 Michael Shank Racing took pole position for Prototype class and GTLM pole went to the #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing. Pole positions for GTD and Prototype Challenge classes went to the #33 Riley Motorsports and the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, respectively. Hope you like the photos.

2016 – Day 1 at Petit Le Mans Road Atlanta (Sep 28)

The 19th running of Petit Le Mans was held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, during the last week of September. This was the last race of the 2016 season for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the end of an era for the Daytona Prototypes. The next few blogs will be recounting my experiences covering this endurance sports car race for the first time. 2016 – The Northeast GP Lime Rock Park (Jul 23)

2016 – Mobil 1 Sportscar GP at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Jul 7 to 10)

Its been a few weeks since my last blog, but now have a chance to take a look back at round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship that was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in early July. CTMP (aka Mosport) is a beautiful natural terrain 2.5 mile road course located in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The 2 hour 40 minute race was won by Dane Cameron and Eric Curran in the #31 Action Express Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype. Hope you like the photos.

2016 – Day 2 at the Six Hours of the Glen (Jul 3)

Sunday, July 3rd, was race day for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship at Watkins Glen International (WGI). After 197 laps, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen was won by João Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in the #5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP. 2016 – Day 1 at the Six Hours of the Glen (Jul 2)

A couple of weeks ago my wife and I met some friends at Watkins Glen International (WGI) for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. WGI, also known as the mecca of North American racing, is located in the Finger Lakes district in upstate New York. Spent the day covering the WeatherTech Championship practice, paddock, and qualifying; and the Lamborghini Trofeo race from the “spectators” side of the fence. Hope you like the photos.

2016 – 100th Running of the Indy 500 (May 29)

The final blog from the month of May from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is about the 100th Running of the Indy 500. A sellout crowd witnessed Alexander Rossi win this historic race in the #98 Andretti Herta Autosport with Curb-Agajanian. 2016 – Indy 500 Qualifications Day (May 21)

This is the day when the nine drivers with the fastest four-lap qualification attempts are determined, who then take part in the Fast Nine Shootout for pole on Sunday. 2016 – Indy 500 Fast Friday (May 20)

The second blog from the month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is about Fast Friday which occurs the week before the Indy 500. Fast Friday refers to the final practice session before qualifying, since the fastest speeds are usually seen on this day. 2016 – Day 3 Morning Warm-up and Paddock at Sebring International Raceway (Mar 19)

The 64th annual running of the 12 Hours of Sebring was held on Saturday March 19th at Sebring International Raceway.  Over the course of this classic endurance race we experienced sun, rain, light, and dark. We also witnessed how the overall winning team won there second consecutive race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship taking the so-called 36 Hours of Florida. 2016 – Day 2 at Sebring International Raceway (Mar 18)

Friday was my second day at Sebring International Raceway. For the morning sessions, headed over to the outside of the front straight near the entry to Turn 1. For the rest of the day explored the inside of Turns 16 through 14, then cut over to the outside of Turns 2 to 4 in the afternoon. Was a good day to explore the circuit with all the track action ranging from Porsche GT3 Cup and Continental Tire Challenge races to the WeatherTech Championship practice and qualifying sessions. 2016 – Day 1 at Sebring International Raceway (Mar 17)

After a long winter hiatus, it was great to get back to the race track last week for the 12 Hours of Sebring and to catch up with friends. This event is held at Sebring International Raceway which is one of America’s classic sportscar racing tracks with 17 turns over a length of about 3.7 miles. Its been a couple of years since I last visited this track, and was glad to make it back for the 12 Hour race. 2015 – F1 USGP Race and Podium at COTA (Oct 25)

As the day progressed the rain from Hurricane Patricia subsided and the USGP at Circuit of the Americas started on a wet track Sunday afternoon (October 25). As the track dried, the race evolved into one of the best of the year. Lewis Hamilton won the race and championship in the #44 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team F1 W06 Hybrid. This was Hamilton’s third championship which tied him with his countryman Sir Jackie Stewart and the late Ayrton Senna. Being able to experience a championship winning race was an amazing experience. 2015 – F1 USGP Sunday Qualifying at COTA (Oct 25)

Hurricane Patricia reached landfall in Mexico and degraded into a tropical depression late Saturday (October 24). The aftermath of this hurricane was still being felt during the rain-curtailed Sunday morning qualifying. Nico Rosberg in the #6 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team F1 W06 Hybrid took pole position during Q2 with a time of 1:56.824. Lewis Hamilton was about a tenth of second behind with a time of 1:56.929 in the #44 Mercedes. Third quickest was Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing RB11 with a time of 1:57.969. Q3 was canceled due to worsening rain. Hope you like the photos.

2015 – GTS Class Season Finale at Laguna Seca (Sep 1o to 13)

Round 17 of the GTS class for the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) was held at Laguna Seca in Salinas, California (September 10 to 13). This 11-turn road course is about 2.3 miles in length and is known for the iconic “Corkscrew” turn. The season finale was won by Kris Wilson in the #07 TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4, with Jack Baldwin second in the #73 GTSport Racing Porsche Cayman S. The championship went to Michael Cooper from Blackdog Speed Shop, with Andrew Aquilante from Phoenix American Motorsports second, and Jack Baldwin from GTSport Racing third. Can’t wait for next year. 2015 – PWC GT Class Round 15 at Mid-Ohio (Aug 2)

GT Class round 15 of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) was held on Sunday (August 2) at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course. Ryan Dalziel won GT class driving the #31 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3R. Bryan Heitkotter was first for GTA class in the #05 Always Evolving Racing Nissan GT-R-GT3. Teenager Austin Cindric had an impressive weekend for GTA class in the #25 Blancpain Racing Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 REX with pole position for the Saturday race and second place in Sunday’s race. 2015 – Honda Indy 200 in Black and White (Aug 2)

The Honda Indy 200 was held Sunday afternoon (August 2) at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course. Graham Rahal in the #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda won the race after 90 laps. Second was Justin Wilson in the #25 Andretti Autosport Honda and third was Simon Pagenaud in the #22 Team Penske Chevrolet. Hope you like the photos.

Qualifying for the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course was held on Saturday (August 1). Scott Dixon took pole position in the #9 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet with a fastest time of 01:04.5814 and speed of 125.869 mph. Second fastest was Will Power in the #1 Team Penske Chevrolet, and third fastest was Sebastien Bourdais in the #11 KVSH Racing Chevrolet. Hope you like the photos.

2015 – Indy Car Practice at Mid-Ohio (Jul 31 and Aug 1)

IndyCar practice was held on Friday and Saturday (August 1). Ryan Hunter-Reay in the #28 Andretti Autosport Honda topped the time-sheets with 01:06.5160 at a top speed of 122.208 mph after three practice sessions. Helio Castroneves in the #3 Team Penske Chevrolet was second fastest and third fastest was Jack Hawksworth in the #41 A.J. 2015 – Indy Car paddock walk-around (Jul 30)

The Honda Indy 200 was held at the picturesque Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course last weekend. The road course is about 2.4 miles long with 13 turns and is located in Lexington, Ohio. Different parts of the track are known as The Keyhole, China Beach, The Esses, Thunder Valley, and The Carousel. 2015 – TUDOR United Sportscar Championship at Lime Rock Park (Jul 25)

IMSA returned to Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix. The beautiful natural terrain track is about 1.5 miles in length and is situated in the Berkshire mountains in Lakeville, Connecticut. The PC Prototypes and GT Daytona (GTD) classes of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (TUSCC) competed in the Saturday afternoon race. PC class was won by Mike Guasch and Tom Kimber-Smith in the #52 ORECA FLM09. Michael Marsal and Dane Cameron won the GTD class in the #97 Turner Motorsport BMW Z4. Hope you like the photos.

2015 – Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Lime Rock Park (Jul 25)

IMSA returned to Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix. The beautiful natural terrain track is about 1.5 miles in length and is situated in the Berkshire mountains in Lakeville, Connecticut. The GS and ST classes of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSCC) competed in the Saturday morning race. Scott Maxwell and Billy Johnson won the GS class in the #15 Ford Ford Shelby GT350R-C.
