The 65th annual running of the 12 Hours of Sebring and second round of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship was held on March 18. The #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R Cadillac DPi with Ricky Taylor, Jordan Taylor, and Alexander Lynn took top honors after 12 hours of racing. The 19th running of Petit Le Mans was held at Road Atlanta on October 1. Olivier Pla, John Pew, and Oswaldo Negri Jr. won this 10 hour endurance race in the #60 Michael Shank Racing Honda HPD Ligier JS P2. Eric Curran and Dane Cameron took the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with fourth place in the #31 Action Express Racing Corvette DP, with Simon Pagenaud. This was a fitting way to end the season, since this would be the last time Daytona Prototypes would compete in this series. On Friday (September 30) the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship cars were on track for their final practice and qualifying sessions for Petit Le Mans. The #60 Michael Shank Racing took pole position for Prototype class and GTLM pole went to the #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing. Pole positions for GTD and Prototype Challenge classes went to the #33 Riley Motorsports and the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, respectively. Hope you like the photos.

Day two at Road Atlanta would see the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship cars on the track for three practice sessions. Practice one was in the morning, second practice in the afternoon, and the third was at night. This was a great opportunity to explore the track and to get shots of the cars from day to night. The 19th running of Petit Le Mans was held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, during the last week of September. This was the last race of the 2016 season for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the end of an era for the Daytona Prototypes. Its been a few weeks since my last blog, but now have a chance to take a look back at round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship that was held at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in early July. CTMP (aka Mosport) is a beautiful natural terrain 2.5 mile road course located in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The 2 hour 40 minute race was won by Dane Cameron and Eric Curran in the #31 Action Express Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype. Hope you like the photos.

After 197 laps, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen was won by João Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in the #5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I met some friends at Watkins Glen International (WGI) for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen. WGI, also known as the mecca of North American racing, is located in the Finger Lakes district in upstate New York. Spent the day covering the WeatherTech Championship practice, paddock, and qualifying; and the Lamborghini Trofeo race from the “spectators” side of the fence. Hope you like the photos.

The 64th annual running of the 12 Hours of Sebring was held on Saturday March 19th at Sebring International Raceway. Over the course of this classic endurance race we experienced sun, rain, light, and dark. We also witnessed how the overall winning team won there second consecutive race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship taking the so-called 36 Hours of Florida. This blog is about my experience at the “12 hours of Sebring” (actually about 15 hours) from the spectator side of the fence. First up is morning warm-up and the paddock. Hope you like the photos.
Friday was my second day at Sebring International Raceway. For the morning sessions, headed over to the outside of the front straight near the entry to Turn 1. For the rest of the day explored the inside of Turns 16 through 14, then cut over to the outside of Turns 2 to 4 in the afternoon. Was a good day to explore the circuit with all the track action ranging from Porsche GT3 Cup and Continental Tire Challenge races to the WeatherTech Championship practice and qualifying sessions. After a long winter hiatus, it was great to get back to the race track last week for the 12 Hours of Sebring and to catch up with friends. This event is held at Sebring International Raceway which is one of America’s classic sportscar racing tracks with 17 turns over a length of about 3.7 miles. Its been a couple of years since I last visited this track, and was glad to make it back for the 12 Hour race. IMSA returned to Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix. The beautiful natural terrain track is about 1.5 miles in length and is situated in the Berkshire mountains in Lakeville, Connecticut. The PC Prototypes and GT Daytona (GTD) classes of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (TUSCC) competed in the Saturday afternoon race. PC class was won by Mike Guasch and Tom Kimber-Smith in the #52 ORECA FLM09. Michael Marsal and Dane Cameron won the GTD class in the #97 Turner Motorsport BMW Z4. Hope you like the photos.

IMSA returned to Lime Rock Park for the Northeast Grand Prix. The beautiful natural terrain track is about 1.5 miles in length and is situated in the Berkshire mountains in Lakeville, Connecticut. The GS and ST classes of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge (CTSCC) competed in the Saturday morning race. Scott Maxwell and Billy Johnson won the GS class in the #15 Ford Ford Shelby GT350R-C.
