2021 IMSA at Watkins Glen International (June 26)

For the next couple of days will focus on the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship cars. Today was practice and qualifying. Hope you like the photos.

For the 8.00 am Practice 2 session went to the outside of Turn 9. The overcast skies really allowed the headlights of the #25 BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE to shine.

As the session continued, moved to my right for a different angle of the cars coming around Turn 9. The beautiful red livery of the #31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi.

Moved to my left so I could get shots of the cars coming up, into, and around Turn 9.

The green grass made a great backdrop for the #10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 Acura DPi.

Around Turn 9 with the #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

Down the Turn 9 to 10 straight with the #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR.

At speed with the #25 BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE. Really like the long lines of the “Bimmer”.

At the end of each session, try some artsy shots. Managed to get one with the #24 BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE.

After the session finished, went for a walk around the paddock.

The IMSA Technical Center is a great location for getting close to the cars as they wait for their technical inspection. The #88 Team Hardpoint EBM Porsche 911 GT3R (top), #12 VASSER SULLIVAN Lexus RC F GT3 (middle) and #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (bottom).

Next went for a walk down to the garages to watch the crews get the cars ready for qualifying. The #25 BMW Team RLL BMW M8 GTE.

Corvette Racing were busy getting there Corvette C8.Rs ready.

Finished my paddock walk with shots of the garages for the #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R (top) and VASSER SULLIVAN Lexus RC F GT3 (bottom).

For the 11.50 am qualifying session went to the inside of the Inner Loop (aka. Bus Stop) for shots of the cars speeding through this part of the track. Starting right to left. The #19 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 entering the Inner Loop at speed. Due to the speed of the cars, really needed to track the cars in the viewfinder of the camera as they came down the Back Straight, then start panning as they pass behind a gap in the safety railing into this part of the track.

The cars then turn left, before the elevation of the track increases. The #9 Pfaff Porsche 911 GT3R.

If you are lucky, you can get a shot of the cars with the wheels on the driver side lifting into the air as they go over the kerbing.

The cars then continue up and along the short straight, then past some WeatherTech signage. The #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (top) and #79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR (bottom).

Thanks again for spending your time reading this blog.
