2022 IMSA at Lime Rock Park (July 16)

The last blog in this retrospective series is race day for the Lime Rock Park 120 and FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix. Hope you like the photos.

Warm Up

Arrived at the track around 7.30 am, so could get my gear together and into position for the 9.05 am warm-up session. Since the session was only 25 minutes, went to the the straight between the exit from Big Bend and the Left-Hander for shots off spectators watching from the Inner Spectator Area hill. The #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R.

The #51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3.

The #27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

Turned around for shots of the cars coming down this short straight. The #32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT3. After the session finished, went back to the media center, and had some time to download and edit photos before the next session.

Lime Rock Park 120

Before the Lime Rock Park 120 race started for the Michelin Pilot Challenge cars, went to the pit area for the fan walk. First took some shots of the cars before the spectators arrived. The #47 NOLASPORT Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS (top) and #95 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 (bottom).

Helmet shot!

Was great to see a large crowd of spectators checking the cars out during the fan walk.

For the start of the two hour race at 11:05 AM went to the inside of the Left-Hander at the bottom of the hill for low shots of the cars coming down the straight as they exited Big Bend.

The #1 Bryan Herta Autosport w/ Curb Agajanian Hyundai Elantra N TCR.

The #59 KOHR MOTORSPORTS Ford Mustang GT4.

As the race continued looked for different vantage points, and walked through the A Paddock to the inside of the track near the Pedestrian Bridge that goes over the Front Straight. It’s a great location to see close racing. The #59 KOHR MOTORSPORTS Ford Mustang GT4 and #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT4.

For the finish of the race went over to the front straight for photos of the chequered as the cars completed the race.

Then went over to the podium for the end of race celebrations. By now it was around 1.30 pm, so went back to the media center to get some lunch and re-charge for the next race.

FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix

For the WeatherTech Championship race at 3.10 pm, went back to the inside of the Left-Hander at the bottom of the hill for low shots of the cars during the start of the race. The #9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R leading the field into the Left-Hander.

The #51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3.

As the cars continued by, turned to my right for shots of the cars entering the Right-Hander. The #79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.
Through the Right-Hander with the #16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R. One of my favorite shots of the race weekend, since this photo really shows the speed of these sportscar.
The #32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT3.
A couple of Bimmer panning shots. The #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 (top) and #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 (bottom).
Some more Bimmer shots, this time using a wider focal length so you can see the Berkshire Mountains in the background. The #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 (bottom) and #25 BMW M Team RLL BMW M4 GT3 (bottom).
The #9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3R.
The #27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with the A Paddock in the background.
The #79 WeatherTech Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.
Turned to my right for panning shots of the cars exiting Big Bend. The #51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3 and #25 BMW M Team RLL BMW M4 GT3.
Another shot of the flying #25 BMW M Team RLL BMW M4 GT3.
Walked along the straight towards the exit of Big Bend, then turned around for shots of the cars exiting the Left-Hander with the spectators watching from the hill behind.
Tried some really slow panning shots to blur the cars passing in front of the subject car, in this case the #25 BMW M Team RLL BMW M4 GT3, against the blurred spectator hill in the background. Was really happy that I managed to get one shot.
Continued my quest to get shots of the cars at different vantage points, so headed over to the inside of the entrance of Big Bend, for shots of the cars speeding past the Outfield Spectator Field. The #32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT3.
Kept moving, and went over for shots of the cars speeding down the front straight. The #51 Rick Ware Racing Acura NSX GT3.
Walked over the pedestrian bridge for some shots of the cars going around Big Bend.
Had some time to experiment, so tried some more super slow shutter speed panning shot of the cars speeding past the A Paddock in the foreground.
Continued walking along the Outfield Spectator Area for a shot the the Lime Rock Chalet, with the Inner Spectator Hill in the background, which are great places to watch the race.
Headed back to the winners podium for the post-race celebrations. After the trophy ceremonies went to the media center to download, edit and upload photos. Was a busy couple of days, but really enjoyed it.
Thanks again for taking your time to read this blog.
