Hurricane Patricia reached landfall in Mexico and degraded into a tropical depression late Saturday (October 24). The aftermath of this hurricane was still being felt during the rain-curtailed Sunday morning qualifying. Nico Rosberg in the #6 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team F1 W06 Hybrid took pole position during Q2 with a time of 1:56.824. Lewis Hamilton was about a tenth of second behind with a time of 1:56.929 in the #44 Mercedes. Third quickest was Daniel Ricciardo in the Infiniti Red Bull Racing RB11 with a time of 1:57.969. Q3 was canceled due to worsening rain. Hope you like the photos.
Went to the outside of Turn 13 to cover qualifying. With about 15 minutes to go until the start of the session the skies were dark and the track was wet.
“Flamingo’s” were getting in place before the start of qualifying.
Rain started to fall just before qualifying.
Pole-sitter Nico Rosberg in the #6 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team F1 W06 Hybrid. Was really cool to see the wet weather tires pumping water from there treads and the water spray coming off the cars.
Felipe Massa in the #19 Williams Martini Racing FW37.
Brave race fans in the grandstands.
Went down to the straight between Turns 12 and 13 to get some panning shots. Sahara Force India F1 Team VJM08.
Lewis Hamilton in the #44 Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team F1 W06 Hybrid. This was one of my favorite shots from the weekend.
Kimi Räikkönen in the #7 Scuderia Ferrari SF15-T.
Daniel Ricciardo in the #3 Red Bull Racing RB11.
Between Turns 12 and 13 there is an opportunity to shoot up the track as the cars speed up and through Turn 13. The brake light behind the Scuderia Ferrari SF15-T looked like a jet-fighters afterburner.
Jenson Button speeding through Turn 13 in the #22 McLaren Honda MP4-30.
Safety car.
