The penultimate blog from the month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is about Carb Day (short for “Carburetion Day”) which is the final practice session before the Indy 500. Hope you like the photos.
The day opened with Vintage car laps. Was great to see these classic cars from the past.
The Tatuus USF-17 was unveiled near the Pagoda. The USF-17 features a carbon fiber monocoque and will replace the Van Diemen/Elan tube-frame car which has been used for the USF2000 Championship since 1999.
Fans were getting their photos taken next to the “I am Indy” sculpture in front of the Pagoda.

Sunny blue skies greeted the track as the morning progressed.

During mid-afternoon the Tag Heuer Indy 500 Pit Stop Competition started where 12 drivers and their teams competed for a first place prize of $50,000. Tire burn-out with Graham Rahal in the #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan w/ Theodore Racing.
As the Pit Stop Competition progressed the crowd got more excited and reached fever pitch when Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey was played over the loud speakers. Was really cool to see the crowd stand to their feet and sing this song.
