2014 Road America to Lime Rock Park – Part Three of My Motorsport Photography Year

The last part of my 2014 year in motorsports photography will focus on the second half of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) season, as well as Indy Car, and races held at Lime Rock Park. As I reflect back, I think wow, what a great experience and learning opportunity this was. Thanks again to those who gave me the chance and helped me through the year. Looking forward to the 2015 season and the second year of my “apprenticeship”. Hope you like the photos.

Retrospective – 2014 Grand Prix of Sonoma (August 24)

Will Power started on pole position and led for about a third of the race, but took a spin on lap 40, which cost him several positions. Two laps from the end of the 85 lap race, Scott Dixon in the #9 Target Chip Ganassi passed Mike Conway and went on to win, with Ryan Hunter-Reay finishing second, and  Simon Pagenaud third. Hope you like the photos.

Retrospective – 2014 Grand Prix of Sonoma Practice (August 23)

The beautiful Sonoma Raceway is located at Sears Point in the Sonoma Mountains in California. This road circuit is about 2.5 miles in length, with 12 turns, and elevation changes of about 160 feet. Even though the on-track action was exciting, the weekend would be remembered for the earthquake that occurred. Despite this intervention by “Mother Nature”, the race went ahead as scheduled. Scott Dixon won the race, with Ryan  Hunter-Reay placing second, and Simon  Pagenaud coming third. Hope you like the photos.

The Honda Indy GP was held at this track, with the “Master of Mid-Ohio”, Scott Dixon winning for the fifth time. Sebastien Bourdais placed second and James Hinchcliffe took third. This was a great track to photograph at with all the elevation changes and natural terrain. Hope you like the shots.

2014 Part 3 – Indy Car Race at GP of Alabama (Apr 27)

For the last part of the IndyCar race, photographed Turn 17 from the inside of the track near the “Spider”, then went to the podium area for shots of the winner and place-getters. Was a great few days at the GP of Alabama, and must thank the pro photographers, track safety marshals, staff, and fans who helped me. Here’s some shots of the winners and other placeholders. Hope you like the photos.

2014 Part 2 – Indy Car Race at GP of Alabama (Apr 27)

After photographing the start of the race near the Turn 4 to 5 hill and early race action along the Turn 11 to 12 straight, walked along the straight to Turn 12 for some 3/4 front shots of the IndyCars as they sped through the slight Turn 12  corner. After shooting there, walked back to the Turn 4 to 5 area for shots of the cars coming over the hill and down into Turns 5 and 6. Hope you like the photos. 2014 Indy Car Qualifying at GP of Alabama (Apr 26)

For the afternoon qualifying session went to the Turn 1 to 2 complex to shoot the cars as they speed down the front straight, into Turn 1, then up through the hill straight into Turn 2. This is a great spot to see IndyCars navigate elevation changes at the track. During the end of the qualifying session, walked over to the pit area to get photos of Will Power, who took pole position with a time of 01:08.3120 at an average speed of 121 mph, driving the #12 Team Penske. Hope you like the photos.
