2021 SRO Motorsports America at Watkins Glen International (September 19)

This blog is about the last day of racing for the SRO Motorsports America at Watkins Glen International. Hope you like the photos.

Once again left the hotel around 6.45 am and grabbed some breakfast and coffee for breakfast on the way to the track. After getting my gear together at the media center drove through the east tunnel, then turned right, and drove along the outside of the back straight towards the entry gate near the Outer Loop at Turn 5. Parked the car, gathered my photography gear, then walked along the drivers left side of the track to the outside of the Inner Loop. Was very excited, since this was the first time I’ve photographed from this part of the track. The USAC Porsche Sprint series race started at 8.00 am, followed by the GT race at 9.00 am. The #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R 991.2 looked great under the morning light.

A pair of Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4’s.

Up close with the #460 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911.1 GT3 R.

Walked along the track towards Turn 5 for shots of the cars as they exited the Inner Loop and started to go down the hill towards the Outer Loop. The #88 Zelus Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The #119 Stephen Cameron Racing BMW M4 GT4 (top) and #99 Rotek Racing Ford Mustang GT4 (bottom).

Next up were panning shots. The #09 Automatic Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 with USA Flag livery looked beautiful under the morning sunlight.

Then turned to my left for rear shots of the cars entering the Outer Loop. Another shot of the #99 Rotek Racing Ford Mustang GT4.

It wasn’t long until the 10.00 am TC America race started, so went back to the Inner Loop for head on shots of the cars as they navigated this part of the track. Really enjoyed watching the close racing. A series of cars being led by the #33 Forbush Performance Hyundai Veloster Turbo TCA.

Later in the race the lead changed with the #18 Forbush Performance Hyundai Veloster Turbo TCA leading this group of cars.

One of the things I wanted to do was to capture panning shots of the #06 and #09 DRS & Garagistic BMW M240iR cars.

The safety workers and spectators were ready for the next session at 11.00 am with the GT4 America SprintX.

The last race of the day was the GT World Challenge America series which started at 1.05 pm. Since this was a 90 minute race had some more time to get around, so went down to a location just past the entrance to the Inner Loop for shots off the cars as they sped up the Back Straight. The #96 Turner Motorsport BMW F13 M6 GT3 leading a field of cars.

Then turned to my left for shots of the cars as they braked into the Inner Loop.

Headed back to the exit of the Inner Loop. First up, a wide shot, with the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW F13 M6 GT3.

Next followed the #20 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R 991.2 through the Inner Loop.

Turned to my left and walked towards Turn 5, for rear shots of the cars entering the Outer Loop. After the race finished at 2.30 pm, drove back to the media center for downloading, editing, then uploading the photos. Since we finished in the early evening, it was great to have time to go to dinner with some of the other photographers to get a good meal, since by now really needed to re-charge. Thanks for spending your time reading this blog.
