Saturday was a busy day at the Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park, with nine races, including the feature Trans Am TA/GT and TA2 races. Although, rain intervened during the day, it made for some exciting on track action. Hope you like the photos.

Arrived at the track around 8.30 am, with overcast skies above, which was a sign for rain that would come later in the day.
With the IGT Endurance race starting in about 30 minutes, headed down the hill, through Paddock A, to the outside of Big Bend. Was cool watching the race start from this vantage point, with a pack of sportscars racing down Sam Posey Straight.
The overcast skies, really made the headlights on the cars very noticeable.
Saw some close racing, with “Ferrari versus Porsche”.

A couple more photos from this vantage point.

Moved to my left, for panning shots of the cars as the sped around Big Bend, with the paddock in the background.

Continued moving to my left, for some photos of the cars as they entered Big Bend.
Finished the session with shots of the cars exiting Big Bend into the start of The Esses, with the Infield Spectator area in the background.
For the Group Sprint race, crossed the pedestrian bridge, to the Outfield Spectator area, and positioned myself for the start of the race, with the Lime Rock Park Timing and Scoring Tower in the background.

Then spent some time capturing the cars as they sped down Sam Posey Straight.
For the finish of the race, walked back across the pedestrian bridge, then along the inside of Sam Posey Straight, for photos of the cars passing the checkered flag.
Grabbed an early lunch, then covered my camera gear and lens with rain covers and put on a rain jacket, in preparation for the rain approaching. Then walked over to the bottom of the Infield Spectator Area, for the start of the TA/GT race, to capture the cars speeding into the Left-Hander of The Esses, with water spraying behind them.
As the race progressed, walked down to the inside of the Left-Hander for closer shots of the cars at “eye-level”. Really like photographing in the rain, and capturing the rain trailing from the rear of the cars.
As the rain continued, the water spray coming from the rear of the cars increased. Edited this photo in black and white, to emphasize the “rooster tail” of water coming from behind this Porsche.

Continued along the inside of the track, for side panning shots of the cars, for a different angle of the water streaming off the cars.

Then walked back to my right, for rear shots of the cars entering the Left-Hander.
Continued tracking the cars as they exited the Left-Hander.

A couple of shots of one of the coolest cars I saw this weekend, a Type 65R Daytona coupe.
As the race continued, walked back along the short straight between the exit of Big Bend and the entrance to The Esses, then turned around to watch the cars go through the Left-Hander, with the Infield Spectator area in the background.
With the rain getting heavier, walked over to the inside of Sam Posey Straight, since would be a good opportunity to get shots of the cars with water streaming from behind them. Think this photo captured how it must be hard for the drivers in the cars behind the lead car to see the track.

Really enjoyed watching the cars speed down Sam Posey Straight in the rain.

With the race finishing soon, walked over to the podium for the winners celebrations. By now, it was close to the lunch break, so grabbed some food and found a dry place to eat and rest, to recharge for the next race.
For the TA2 race, went back to Sam Posey Straight for the start, so could capture more “rooster tail” photos of the cars, as the rain continued to fall.
At times, it seemed like the track was continuously covered in rain,

Some more shots from the front straight.
While I was photographing noticed a “Coca Cola” bottle in the Outfield Spectator area.

Even though the rain subsided, the track was still very wet and slick, as the cares went around Big Bend.

After a few more laps, went up to the outside of the Downhill for low front shots of the cars. Many thanks to the Lime Rock Park golf cart shuttle that took me to this new location.

Then turned around, for rear photos of the cars descending the Downhill.

Walked further along the outside of West Bend, for a series of shots of the cars entering the corner.

Then captured some side panning photos of the cars, with their reflections appearing on the wet track below.

With a few laps reminding, walked down the hill to the podium for the race winners celebrations. Another great day photographing at the track, and as I mentioned, before, really like photographing in the rain, and appreciate the skill of the drivers handling the wet track conditions. Thanks again for spending your time reading this photo blog, and everyone who helped me over the last couple of days.
