2024 Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park (May 23)

The Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park is a multi-series event that is held over the Memorial Day long weekend at Lime Rock Park. At this event, spectators have the opportunity to see race cars from the Trans AM, SVRA and the International GT series; as well as a car show and craft beer festival. This blog is about the paddock load in that happens the day before the race event. Hope you like the photos.

Its been about six months since I’d been at a race track to photograph race cars, so you could only imagine how excited I was for the Memorial Day Classic, at my “home track”, Lime Rock Park. Before going to this event made sure all my photography gear was in place, batteries charged and memory cards reformatted. Also, checked I had all my laptop and electronic gear, as well as my clothes etc. After packing the car, left Boston late Thursday morning for the approximately 3.5 hour drive west along I90, to Lee, then through Great Barrington to Lime Rock Park in upstate Connecticut.

After arriving at the track, went for a walk around the paddock. First walked down the inner spectator hill to the A Paddock, to check out some of the car transporters arriving and crews setting-up their garages.

As part of Lime Rock Park’s “Year of Skip Barber”, the Timing and Scoring Tower will be dedicated in his name, during the pre-race TA2 ceremonies on Saturday. Here’s a preview of the Timing and Scoring Tower with Skip Barber’s name.

Looking forward to seeing what type of cars are underneath these covers.

Walked over to the B Paddock and saw some car transporters arriving.

Saw a lot of cool cars being unloaded from car transporters, on trailers and next to there garages.

Exterior and interior photos of a Porsche SP911, with its distinctive “whale tail” rear spoiler.

Saw a couple of Porsche International GT series cars, including one in classic Martini livery.

An elevated view of a Trans AM car in its transporter, with a parallel row of lights underneath.

Turned around and watched a Trans AM car being lowered from its transporter.

After the car was lowered and put into position, the crew let me take a photo of the inside of the car, which gives you an idea of the steering wheel and dashboard layout.

The livery on this transporter and Trans AM car really caught my eye.

Headed up the road next to the B Paddock to the Midway, and noticed the sign with all the major race events listed for 2024 at Lime Rock Park. A lot of race events to look forward to.

As I was heading back to the car, noticed the wide range of campers, from large bus RV’s, to caravans and tents. Really liked the camping set-up above, with flags flying and a Speedvision sign, which brought back memories of watching F1 on this TV channel many years ago.

The iconic Lime Rock Park campers.

After leaving the track, headed back to Great Barrington, and checked into the hotel I was staying at, then grabbed some dinner. Looking forward to tomorrow, with all the on track action to capture. Thanks for spending your time reading this blog.
