After watching the start of the race I decided to walk over to the outside of Turn 1. This is where a chance meeting led to a great photographic opportunity. On the way I stopped at a restroom, then as I was leaving the restroom, put my camera backpack on a Golf cart to organize my gear. As I was doing this, the gentleman who owned the Golf cart asked “where was I going?” I mentioned I was on my way to Turn 1, so he said, “I’ll take you there”. It turns out that he is the owner of the Number 49 Chevrolet Corvette Rdstr which raced in the SVRA Vintage/Historic race. When we got to Turn 1, he said “follow me”. So I did, and he took me through a roped off area where some fans had a tent, RV, and make-shift scaffolding which overlooked the outside of Turn 1, and he helped me up the scaffolding which gave a great view of the Front Straight, Pit Exit, and Turn 1. It turns out the fans have been at this location for the last 23 years. I thanked everyone for their generosity and thought to myself “Wow, this is amazing, and was very thankful”. This would also be the place to photography from at sunset where you could get shots of the cars coming down the front straight silhouetted against the setting sun in the background (maybe next year).
