2024 Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park (May 25)

Today was race day for the Trans AM TA2 class feature race, as well as practice and qualifying for the other race series. Another exciting day at Lime Rock Park. Hope you like the photos.

For the early-morning SVRA group practice sessions, went to the inside of West Bend for photos of the cars speeding around this corner into the Downhill. On the way up to West Bend passed a nice viewing area at the top of the Infield Spectator area (top photos) and some Porsche and American Muscle cars in the Skid Pad area.

Also passed a really cool looking three-wheeled motorbike in one of the West Bend camping areas.

Here’s a series of photos, which illustrate the range of photos you can get at West Bend. Really like how in the morning, the shadows cover part of the track for added effect (third photo from top), as well as the shadow of the bridge when the cars pass beneath it (bottom two photos). For the photos above, top to bottom; a 1982 Theodore TY02, 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster, 1978 Porsche 911, BMW, 1983 Mazda RX7 and a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster.

For the second IGT race, walked over to the inside of the Uphill, since there was a good chance that the Porsche cars of this series, would lift their wheels as they sped over this hill. Also, the morning light would backlight the trees and cars. First started with front photos of the cars, then walked to the side of the track, opposite the flaggers stand, for side photos of the cars.

Stayed at this location for the start of the mid-morning Trans AM TA/XGT/SGT/GT test session. The #3 Menards/Master Force Tools Ford Mustang was one of my favorites, with its beautiful metallic green livery.

Some front wheel lift with the #13 KMC / Rapid Performance Mgmt / Motul Porsche 997.1 GT3 Cup just after it sped over the top of the Uphill.

The #17 Top Liner / Go Share Chevrolet Camaro lifts its front wheels as it speeds over the Uphill.

Walked along the straight towards West Bend, for some 3/4 panning photos of the cars. The #42 Bennett / Bridgehaul / PitBoxes Mercedes AMG GT3.

With the session finishing late-morning, headed down to the A Paddock for an early lunch, and saw a range of cool cars lining the road.

The Skip Barber Tower.

Before the TA2 race started, went down to pit lane for the pre-grid walk and ceremonies. Was great to see all the cars lined up and the many fans.

For the start of the TA2 race at 1.10 pm, walked down to the bottom of the Infield Spectator area (top) for photos of the cars as they came down the short straight between the exit of Big Bend and the entry to the Left-Hander. This is a great vantage point for the start of the race, since the cars bunch up, and usually there is dust in the background, from cars brushing the dirt along the edge of the track. Side-by-side with the #60 and #80 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang’s (bottom).

After a few laps walked along the side of the track, towards Big Bend, to an area, where you could see flames coming from the exhaust of some of these cars. The #30 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang.

The #7 Silver Hare Racing Chevrolet Camaro.

About half-way down, there is a vantage point where you can get photos of the cars, with the Infield Spectator area in the background, as well as side panning photos. The #11 Iron Smoke / RedLine Oil / Carbotech Chevrolet Camaro (middle) and the #20 Greenlight Simulation / BCR Ford Mustang (bottom).

Also, watched the cars as they accelerated out of the Left Hander. The #7 Silver Hare Racing Chevrolet Camaro, with the #30 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang in hot pursuit.

Towards the end of the race, went over to Big Bend to get photos of the cars as they went around this sweeping corner. The #11 IronSmoke / Red Line Oil / Carbotech Chevrolet Camaro.

Race winner, the #60 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang driven by Rafa Matos and winners podium.

After the podium celebrations for the TA2 class, grabbed some food and rested for a while, then went up to the outside of West Bend for the F2000 qualifying session. For this session, first went to a location near the drive over bridge at the top of the Down Hill for some front on photos of the cars. A 2003 Van Diemen F2000 with it Ferrari logo on the side.

Due to the high contrast light, editing the photos in black and white also looked great. A 2010 Radon RN10.

About half-way through the session, walked over to the outside of West Bend for photos of the cars entering and going around this corner. A 2012 Elan DP08

A couple of photos of the 2003 Van Diemen F2000 “Ferrari”.

Stayed at this location for the 4.45 pm TA/XGT/SGT/GT practice session. The #42 Bennett / Bridgehaul / PitBoxes Mercedes AMG GT3 looked really nice as it moved through the pockets of light with its metallic looking red, black, silver and white livery.

The #93 Island Trees Auto Chevrolet Camaro speeding through West Bend.

After the session ended, headed back to the A Paddock, then went to the car. On the way back to the hotel grabbed some take-out dinner. Many thanks to everyone who helped me at this event, and thanks for spending your time reading this blog.
