2023 GRIDLIFE Circuit Legends at Lime Rock Park (Part 3) (August 19)

This blog is about the last part of my day covering GRIDLIFE Circuit Legends at Lime Rock Park. Hope you like the photo’s

After the drifting session finished, walked up the Inner Spectator Hill and past some campsites, then across to the Midway.

On the way saw a Mitsubishi MiniCab 4WD truck from the 1990’s.

Walked through the Mid-way, past the B Paddock on my right, then up the hill, to the bridge at the top of the Down Hill.

Descended along the side of the Down Hill until I reached the marshals stand at Turn 7. From here you have a great view of cars at the top of the Downhill, then descending into Turn 7 and along the front straight. Should mention that the Lime Rock Park staff did a great job to clear the walking path along the Downhill, as well as other parts of the track, which made it easier to get around, many thanks. Before the 3.10 pm Time Attack session started, had a great chat with the Safety Marshalls.

As mentioned before, it was amazing the range of cars that I saw at this event. Who would have thought you would see a Volvo station wagon speeding around Lime Rock Park, really cool.

Was really happy to see the 1966 Toyota Stout powered by a 3S/5S-GTE again.

As the session continued, walked back up the hill to near the  top of the Downhill for panning shots of the cars exiting Turn 7 and along the front straight.

For race 4 of the GLTC series, which started at 4.50 pm, walked back to the Esses, to capture the start of the race as the cars entered the exit of Big Bend into the straight that leads into the Lefthander.

Then turned to my right for shots of the cars going through the Righthander.

Next captured some panning shots of the cars speeding “through the grass”. The #179 Honda Civic (top) and #917 Honda S2000 (middle and bottom).

Then switched to a wider angle lens, for panning shots. The #528

The late afternoon light was getting really nice, with a warm glow lighting the front of the cars, as illustrated by the photo above, which also shows how close the cars raced. If you look at the back of this photo, you will notice a car going over the side of the track, resulting in a “shower” of dirt going over this car.

With the beautiful light, decided to try some back lit shots of the cars, so walked along the track to a vantage point where I could get shots of the cars exiting the Lefthander, as other cars passed in the foreground. Pointed the lens into the sun and tracked the cars, with one eye looking into the camera viewfinder, and my other eye watching for other cars entering the frame in the foreground, then taking a series of shots as the cars passed “over” each other in the viewfinder. By doing this, and using a slow shutter speed, you can get a panning shot of the car with streaks of light over it from the passing car. Was lucky to get this shot of the #94 ASM Honda S2000.

For the drifting, decided to start this session with the sun behind me, then in front of me for back-lit shots. Here’s a selection of the photos from this session.

After the drifting session ended, headed hack to the car, then drove home to Boston. Wow, what a great day I had experiencing GRIDLIFE Circuit Legends at Lime Rock Park. Thanks for spending your time reading this blog.
