2023 Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park (May 25)

Last weekend was the Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park (LRP). Was really looking forward to this race, since it is a great event to see a wide range of cars from Trans AM, International GT, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) and Formula Race Promotions (FRP) 2000 open-wheelers. Also, this was my first car race to attend this year. This blog is about the preparation day before the event. Hope you like the photos.

Left Boston around 11.00 am for the approximately 3 hour drive west along I90 to Lee, then south through Stockbridge, Great Barrington; then across the border to Lime Rock Park in Northwest Connecticut. This natural terrain track is situated in the Berkshire mountains and is one of the most picturesque tracks I’ve been to. LRP was opened in 1957 and has a rich history of motorsport racing, with many legends in the sport racing having raced, and racing here. The track is about 1.50 miles in length, and consists of seven turns, with major elevation changes and is challenging to drive at speed. The track is also a great place to watch a car race from, since their are many spectator viewing areas inside and outside the track, ranging from grass and tree covered hills, to the flat paddock areas with low fencing, that enables unrestricted views. Also, the paddock areas where the race car garages are located, are readily accessible to fans, and there are plenty of food and other vendor stands.

After arriving at the track, parked the car near the Midway area inside the track, then walked down the hill to the A Paddock. Here’s a view of the A Paddock from the Infield Spectator area, with the Berkshire Hills in the background.

In the A Paddock, passed the Timing and Scoring Tower to check out the cars and the garages being set-up.

 A 1982 Chevrolet Corvette.

Also saw a 1982 Theodore TY02.

A pair of 1973 Datsun 240Z’s parked in front of the beautiful Berkshire Hills.

Rows of tires were being unloaded from trailers with a variety of rubber available.

A trio of F1600 series open-wheelers.

A Ford Mustang inside its trailer.

Continued walking down the A Paddock and saw a pair of 1962 Jaguar XKE 0TS.

Watched a 1967 Jaguar XKE being lowered to the ground from its transport trailer (top) and a 1975 Chevron B-31 being pushed into its garage tent (bottom).

On my way back to the Media Center, saw a 1977 Porsche 911 (left) and 1980 Porsche 911SC (right) parked next to their trailer and under a garage tent.

The F4 pace and safety car.

Left the Media Center and walked up the hill to the Midway and saw some cool Lime Rock Park camper trailers.

Then headed back to the where my car was parked and passed by a Porsche. Left the track, and headed back to Great Barrington to grab some food, then went to the hotel. Was really excited about the next days on track action and couldn’t wait to get back to LRP. Thanks for spending your time reading this blog.
