Day two at the Historic Festival 43, was race day, for the nine vintage car groups. Was looking forward to seeing these cars race, not once, but twice, all in one day. Hope you like the photos.
After arriving at the track, parked my car in the Outfield parking lot, then headed down the hill towards the Pedestrian Bridge. On my way down, met one of my photography friends, and we asked each other where we planned to photograph the first session, Group 1 race 1. He mentioned, they were going to a new location in front of the Outfield Chalet, where a viewing deck was built, so decided to give this new location a go.
Really liked this location, since it gave you great views of Sam Posey Straight and the Timing and Scoring Tower. The start of the first race for Group 2.

Also tried some slow shutter speed panning photos of the cars going around Big Bend (top) and through The Esses (bottom). Really enjoyed this location, for the expansive view of the track.
After the session ended, walked around the Outfield Spectator area, and noticed the great view you have at this location for watching the track action.

For the first race for Group 3, walked over the Pedestrian Bridge, to the inside of Sam Posey Straight, for shots of the cars speeding down this part of the track. Thought it was appropriate to edit these photos in black and white.

Stayed at this location for the next session, Group 4 race 1, for photos of the cars entering Big Bend. A 1975 Chevron B-31 (top) and 1983 Tiga SC83 (bottom).

Noticed as the cars went around Big Bend, their was a short straight for side panning shots of the cars, with beautiful backlit foliage (top) or a “cloud of dust” from a car in front hitting the dirt (bottom).

After the session ended, walked down the A Paddock, then up to the Inner Spectator area, and across to the outside of the exit from The Esses.

Arrived outside The Esses in time for the first Group 6 race. From this vantage point, you get a great view of the cars navigating the Left- and Right-Handers. Here’s a series of photos of a 1974 Porsche 914 moving through The Esses.
This photo of a 1968 Porsche 912 reminded me of a “postcard” from Lime Rock Park.

The Esses is also a great location for getting 3/4 and side panning photos of the cars, and here’s a few examples of the types of photos you can capture.

For Group 7 race 1, moved to my left, for photos of the cars exiting The Esses into Paul Newman Straight.
As the race progressed, turned to my left, for rear shots of the cars as they raced along Paul Newman Straight into the Uphill.

After the race finished, walked over to the Midway to check out the vendors and cars on display.
Then walked down the Inner Spectator area, which is a great location to sit on the grass and watch the cars race through The Esses.
After reaching the A Paddock, went over the the Sam Posey Straight to watch the Rag Time Racers.

For the second Group 3 race, walked down the A Paddock to the inside of Big Bend, for some panning photos at “normal” (top) and very slow (bottom) shutter speeds. Really liked how it appeared that “waves of foliage” engulfed the 1950 Cadillac 61 “LeMonstre”, when using a very slow shutter speed (bottom).
Walked along the inside the track to the entrance of The Esses, for photos of the cars entering the Left Hander, with the Inner Spectator area in the background. Finished the day around mid-afternoon, since needed to drive back to Boston. Had a great couple of days at Lime Rock Pack. Thanks for spending your time reading this photo story.
