2024 Sahlens Six Hours of the Glen (June 22)

For day three at Watkins Glen International, focussed on the WeatherTech Championship practice and qualifying sessions for tomorrow’s Sahlen’s Six Hour’s of the Glen. Also visited the paddock where these sports cars were garaged. Hope you like the photos.

For the second practice session for the WeatherTech Championship at 9.10 to 10.40 am, went back to the inside of Turn 9 at the top of the exit from The Boot. Top to bottom: the #86 MDK Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), #64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Ford Mustang GT3, #24 BMW M Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 and #31 Whelen Cadillac Racing Cadillac V- Series.R.

Also tried some slow shutter speed photos. An Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo.

As the session continued, walked to my left for photos of the cars exiting the top of The Boot into Turn 9. Here’s a wide photo to give you an idea of what this vantage point looks like. Was also great to see how some spectators inside The Boot had tents set-up to protect then from the hot sun as they watched the cars speed by them from Turn 8 into 9. The #01 Cadillac Racing Cadillac V- Series.R (top) and #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06 (bottom).

Turn 9 is one of my favorite locations to photograph from since it provides many angles for different photos of the cars. The #31 Whelen Cadillac Racing Cadillac V- Series.R (top), #5 Proton Competition Mustang Sampling Porsche 963 (middle) and #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 (bottom).

Continued with the session by panning the cars as they went into Turn 9. The #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06 (top), #66 Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 (middle), and #5 Proton Competition Mustang Sampling Porsche 963 (bottom).

Then went for some side panning photos of the cars as they moved along the Turn 9 to 10 straight. The #32 Korthoff / Preston Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 (top), #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 (middle) and #57 WINWARD RACING Mercedes-AMG GT3 (bottom).

As I was watching the cars go along the Turn 9 to 10 straight, was thinking of what a slow shutter speed photo would look like with the blue guard railings framing the car. The #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3.

So tried some slow shutter speed photo’s. The #55 Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3, with its blue livery matching the color of the guard rails.

After the session finished, drove over to the Infield Parking area near the vendor area.

Looked at the road to my right and saw on one side of the road a line of Lamborghini SUV’s and on the other side, Lamborghini sports cars.

Then walked back along the car manufacturer’s stands to check out the cool cars on display.

After getting something to eat, walked over to the North Paddock to check out the WeatherTech Championship cars in their garages. Walked past the Technical Inspection station and an IMSA trailer to the Cadillac Racing garage.

Was great that the Cadillac Racing team let me get close to the #01 Cadillac Racing Cadillac V-Series.R.

Next visited the garage for the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06.

Kept walking and saw a pair of BMW M Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8’s parked in there garage. Really liked the front-end design of this GTP, with its large front-air intakes, that were outlined with LED lights.

Was great that wherever you looked, you saw a GTP. The matt black and gold livery on the #5 Proton Competition Mustang Sampling Porsche 963.

The #63 Lamborghini Iron Lynx Lamborghini SC63.

Kept walking and saw the #11 TDS Racing ORECA LMP2 07 with its “DayGlo” yellow paintwork.

Towards the end of this road, were the GT cars. The #3 and 4 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Corvette Z06 GT3.R’s.

The #12 and 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3’s.

Turned around, and saw Rexy and Spike. It’s really cool how the AO Racing team used dinosaur livery on there cars and the front of there garages. The #77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) (top) and #99 AO Racing ORECA LMP2 07 (bottom).

For the WeatherTech Championship qualifying at 3.30 to 4.35 pm, went to the outside of the Inner Loop, but this time found a location closer to where the cars entered this complex. The #21 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 (top), #20 MDK by High Class Racing ORECA LMP2 07 (middle) and #63 Lamborghini Iron Lynx Lamborghini SC63 (bottom).

Towards the end of the session, tried some very slow shutter speed photos. This time used a wider focal length and used a shutter speed of 1/10 sec and was lucky that one of these photos worked out. The #10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06. After the session finished, went back to the car, then drove back to the hotel at Painted Post for an early dinner. Thanks for spending your time reading this photo story.
